About Darkwood
The place you least want to be in the Bearlagos. Dr. Grizz and co.
Darkwood is the ‘bad land’ of The Bearlagos. You only have to look at it to see that it appears different. Its dark, misty, red, rocky mountains have a bad aura about them. The coast is extremely hard to maneuver, with rocks and high-tide waves splashing around making it very hard to access.
If you do happen to get on the island, then you may find some strange creatures (grizzly guard bears, dizzies, bees, wolf packs etc.) that you don’t find elsewhere, many of which are rumoured to be bears who were ‘poached’ and taken to Darkwood as slaves or experimented on in the ‘Labearatory’ by Darkwood’s most evil inhabitant Dr. Grizz (and all to aid his secret ambition). He hasn’t been seen since ‘The Event’, but many bears around The Bearlogos suspect he is still around and Darkwood would be the most likely spot considering it seems to be getting darker, redder, and more suspicious by the day.
Why is the water and land tinted red around Darkwood? Well, it is said that the hunney river that runs from Bearington, and which flowed hunney into the surrounding sea, was polluted by a poisonous chemical that exists around Darkwood since there was a factory spill there years ago. What goes on in these factories is anyone’s guess, as it seems that any bears who go to work there never seem to return back to the mainland.
For those few bears who have been to Darkwood and return they seem to remember little about it, and often return quite lifeless, losing their senses, spirit, and unable to say much other than a repetitive word over and over (they are now called Imagone’s as their imagination has effectively been wiped and they must visit the Emochine and Pawsitive Thinking for any hope to help them recover their senses).
Why does this happen? Some bears think it’s because the chocolate on Darkwood (from the surrounding Chocolate Caves which is one of the only other things known to exist on the island) is based within a memory dump causing polluted chocolate to create this effect, while others think it is solely the evil experiments of Dr. Grizz – although the infamous ‘Labearatory’ hasn’t actually been seen by any non-Darkwood bears so this still remains just a rumour, for now.
Was Meeso taken here, and if so what on earth would Dr. Grizz want with her?
Darkwood Backstory:
Darkwood was once a nice place that was seen as a bear retreat in the rocky mountain woods. The trees were made of a long dar wood, hence its name. Bears would go here and enjoy nature, but even a long time ago there were a few complaints of feeling a little sluggish after visiting there. Then again, bears feeling slow and sluggish on Slowth (which incidentally also has hidden Chocolate Caves) too so they didn’t think it was anything too concerning and most forgot about it.
After ‘The Event’ the tides around Darkwood seemed to be picking up more and more, and the island became a dangerous place to try and get to so most bears gave up trying, but there were a few stories of some bears visiting there but not returning. Fort tried to investigate but nothing seemed to be too out of the ordinary back then on the island, so it was put down towards unsolved mysteries.
As time passed there was a growing number of incidents around Darkwood so Eyeland decided to keep track of it using deployed Catingtons to keep an eye on it, but when Fort’s captain Mr. Dooman went missing after heading to Magnetic Island, and Eyeland’s head of security Padeski seemed to disappear one day after taking his nephew Eski out to visit the Beareum, concern started to grow. This was a little while ago now and since Fort has been stationed between Darkwood and Bearington there seemed to be a drop in activities, but when Meeso also went missing it seemed to be the trigger to this whole detective adventure that awaits the Bearventuers.
Bassventures – Dr. Grizz Is Near:
This song plays on a loop whenever Evil Dr Grizz is somewhere near, or when a Darkwood scene comes up.
Bassventures – Hypnotize Zing:
There's a hypnotic effect with some of the chocolate on Darkwood and when you eat it you feel dizzy & hypnotised.
Bassventures – The Dizzies:
When 'the dizzies' start spinning around your head this song plays and you start getting dizzy. It's not a good sign if you hear this song playing when on Darkwood. You need to run in the opposite direction fast to stop it.
Bassventures – The Dizzies Got Me:
When this song plays then it's too late, 'the dizzies' have got you.
NOTE: Audio quality is compressed for web loading purposes so bass may sound grainy or fuzzy (especially on mobile devices). However, the Bassventures album is in full quality.
