About Mave Reef (Bair)

Mave Reef is the underwater island that was formerly Bair, home of the oldest Bearlago bears.

Mave Reef (a cross between a maze and a cave system) comes into the Bearventures story a little later on when the bear search for lost information, and with the help of Dolphin Air Deep goes looking for it in what was his old home, with the help of Doomy, a cave expert. There’s a lot of old memories and lost treasures to be found deep within the reef, which is somewhat mystical. Was Meeso lost here? 

The Mave Reef – seems beutiful, but has some hidden secrets within. Attracted dolphins from far far away. Some secrets about Bair and Bubbalo are kept within there, trapped in caves and Bubblepops, which the bears need to work out to find out more about Dr Grizz and what happened to the islands and why Darkwood is at fault. The bears find something of use with the help of Dolphin Air (who Joe King is ironically friends with, considering how slow he is compared to how fast Dolphins are – Dolphins delivery Joe Kings favourite snack quickly, so Joe King can eat slowly haha). 
A while ago Pensa tried to resurface the sunk island of Bair (now ‘Mave Reef’ / also known as ‘The Mave’ cross between maze and cave). Unfortunately, his invention ‘land seed’ didn’t quite work out and instead of Bair ‘resurfacing’, it just added a reef around the maze very quickly, so now Bair is an underwater maze of different caves that looks like a beautiful reef system. Pensa ended up creating a new ecosystem full of fish and attracted dolphins, who quickly became an important part of Bearlagos (Dolphin bears of course). Dolphins became a smart way of delivering across islands near the reef – they are loyal to islands near the reef, Slowth, Bearington, Freezso & the underwater Mave Reef. They can’t go to Dreamback much though, as Dreamback becomes too shallow at times with the changing tide and with part of Dreamback being build upwards in clouds (you need a floating device to find mallows on Dreamback – hence Quteso becoming important in helping Oinky there). Some bubblepops floated towards Freezso and became frozen. 
Bair – the former island on Bearlagos that was next to Bubbalo. Bubbalo sank and drifted into bubbles all over the Bearlagos. Bair remained but sank. Bair was an island that was set up like a maze with caves everywhere for the Bair residents. There’s a history between Dr Grizz and Bear Oven on Bair. Bear Oven was from Bair, as were other more real ‘bear’ types like the grizzlies before Dr Grizz managed to manipulate and take them as his own, turning some into bear guards. Others perished and the last few remain on Jungleton. Bear Oven is one of the rare old tries of bears left. He ensures people can still learn the traditional bear ways, even though Bearington has evolved into a modern society of ted bears today. Bear Oven also speaks Bair, the native language of bears before English evolved. Bair sounds more like growls and noises but makes sense to Bair residents. The last three remaining showing parts of Bair were its three peaks known as the ‘popcorn peaks’ as they look a bit like popcorn. Bair was full of rich natural resources which might’ve been why Dr Grizz tried to possess it and Bubbalo was drifting too close to Darkwood which might’ve been why Dr Grizz tried to destroy it. We learn more about Dr Grizz motivations as the story unfolds. Bear Oven hates Dr Grizz and agrees to help the Bearventurers find him. The bears have to go through reining in Jungleton, an island built with lots of security and training features to protect it from Darkwood, but most of Bearington and the rest of Bearlagos don’t know about Darkwoods current labearatory, they just know about Darkwood being a dark dangerous place to go on one side and a chocolate resource on the other where workers go. Bear Oven and Bubs are two of the only other bears to know its history about Dr Grizz, other residents from there either perished or became mindwashed as part of Dr Grizz evil ‘mindwash agent’ that turned the residents of Bubbalo or Bair to the ‘dark side’ as it also ate into the land and destroyed it. Bear Oven and Bubs know they are no match to Dr Grizz empire alone so the bears need to come together. Dolphin air is a network of dolphins that can still search within the Bair maze, and Oinky must use the dolphin air to get to the popcorn peaks, the only part of the cave system still overland. There’s more hidden bubblepops that got lost and caught within Bair’s cave maze, so the bears need the dolphins help to find some that might hold hidden messages that could be useful. How did the dolphins get to a bear island? Well there’s many forms of ted bears today, not all are old type Grizz bears like from Bair, so you see other animals in bear form today (and you work out why when the second journey starts to the real world of teds, who are of different animal types). Dolphins managed to get into the Bearlagos through the underwater current, or were an invention of pensa as a transport service? Dreamback is not a place where bears normally go. The only way to get there is through navigating the popcorn peaks or through a mobile freezeporter only found on Freezso. Pensa created it long ago to safeguard some of his inventions and to learn more about what is going on in Darkwood. Pensa has never met Dr Grizz but knows something isn’t right there on Darkwood. Since he learnt of Dr Grizz from Quteso he is trying to come up with a way to make the old islands of Bair and Bubbalo return, with a ‘landseed’ he’s developing, but it may take a while for it to grow properly, or it started growing and then created a reef which attracted dolphins? Bair and Bubbalo were next to each other to the east of Bearington and leading up towards Darkwood. The popcorn peaks lead from Slowth towards Dreamback but are very hard to get too until Kid Ding finds an entrance. Dreamback leads towards Freezso area but isn’t cold like Freezso, it has a magical, dreamy feel about it that is neither hot or cold. The 3 popcorn peaks are at the very south of what used to be Bair. Bair goes up much further underwater as it was nearer Darkwood. Darkwood has a powerful force that creates clouds around it. Magnetic island stays though as it also has a powerful magnetic force that counteracts. Bubbalo was even higher than Bair and drifts between Darkwood, Bearington, Freezso and Magnetic Island. The 3 peaks can be seen from Slowth, which is its own island and not part of Bair. Eyeland was a bearmade island on the south of Bearington as a security area to protect Bearington, as is the Fort, which is a moving island that looks like a boat that drifts back and forth from the east and west of North Bearington. Freezso is accessible by freezeporters, it’s too cold for most bears to go to unless they are polar bears. Dr Grizz took Meeso and other polar bears through manipulating the freezeporter network. Only the north of Freezso is ‘bearable’ for bears. The south of the island (which actually looks like the north in the map) is too cold for most bears to visit. Freezso is the biggest island but has . Pensa learns of plans of Dr Grizz to ‘unfreeze’ part of Freezso so he can take over the land and extend his evil network, which prompts Pensa to intervene (who thought he was safe to retire in peace there at first). Jungleton All seems fine at first on Bearington, with a calm to the Bearlagos these days. It’s quite a while ago since Bubbalo and Bair were mysteriously wiped out in why was covered up as an unfortunate natural disaster. Their surviving residents resettled elsewhere, but they didn’t know they were also mindwashed with the agent that wiped their home out. If they weren’t taken by Dr Grizz and labeled ‘deceased’, they were mindwashed by the agent to forget what happened and just think of it as a natural disaster. The likes of Bobby are still mindwashed by Dr Grizz without knowing it, so they inadvertently try to help and end up actually leading the bears astray without them even relaxing they are mindwashed to keep anyone from knowing the truth about Darkwood. They still think they are trying to help but just don’t realize how controlled their minds are. It was only Bubs, Bear Oven and a few others that seemed to remember the truth but they now have to live quietly otherwise Dr Grizz might find out and catch them with his poachers and spy catingtons (which we find out are not all the same – some are controlled by Padeski to help and others to help Dr Grizz. We think they are all trying to help Dr Grizz and Padeski as Padeski is meant to be evil, but we learn it’s not the case – Eyeland was set up to be a security area of Bearington where spy catingtons take recordings and feed them back into the system on Eyeland, which can be seen in the eye of truth, but the network has also been tampered with and bears don’t trust the spy catington network (robot cats with cameras as eyes) as there were some errors made which sent innocent bears to magnetic island to be locked up in the bearism for beariminals. Bears are afraid of being caught by spy catingtons and wrongfully accused, but later we find some soy catingtons were just hacked and reprogrammed by Dr Grizz to cover up bears being taken from Bearington for being ‘beariminals’ when they weren’t and instead of being sent to the bear prioson they were sent to Darkwood. It was when bears started going missing, Meeso included that the peace of Bearington was changing and bears realized something must be going on, and they led them to explore. Years ago the spy catingtons and Padeski were seen as trusted and part of Bearington to keep the peace from Darkwood, which was evil before but now it seemed like those days were finished. When Padeski was taken a few years ago no one really knew about it, as Padeski would have to go from island to eyeland to check out the security, but Darkwood was building something in the far corner and Padeski was getting too close so Grizz mindwashed him. Most residents of Bearington had no idea he was gone as he stayed on Eyeland more than Bearington anyway, and must’ve assumed security headquarters were just added to Darkwood too. Padeski disappearing should’ve been the alarm bells but it was only a few years later when bears started to really take notice and Meeso turned out to be the catalyst for change. Meeso was a rare polar bear taken by a freeporter purposeful mix up, but Dr Grizz didn’t realize he had just made his first big mistake taking him. The bears can still find some of this agent underwater of the Bair maze system, which is now sterile and can’t mindwash any more, but they can take a sample for Pensa to analyze. Gom Bam Boo was also from Bair.

Mave Reef wasn’t always underwater, it was a thriving place where the majority of the Bears lived before ‘The Event’ happened, ‘The Event’ which the bears are learning more about as they head out on their adventure.
