About The Bearlagos

The Bearlagos is the home within the eyes of our bear characters. It’s where Eski, Oinky and co learn about (and challenge) life just like humans, but there’s a lot more to be discovered about this place as the bears head off on an adventure they will never forget.

Within the Bearlago Islands, there are many different places that the bears go, with a mix of places needed for everyday living, ones which put them into challenging real-life situations, and some special places and islands, each with its own character, theme, and style, that can fuel the bear’s imagination by bringing interactive learning to life. On their adventures, the bears have to visit many places to learn skills and pick up clues around The Bearlagos to know where and how to find their missing friend, Meeso.

Whilst the main inhabited island in the shape of a bear paw is Bearington, there’s many other islands around The Bearlagos. In the past, Freezso, Bair, and Bubbalo were the main inhabited islands, but not anymore, and for different reasons as you’ll find out.

Former inhabitants of Bair and Bubbalo moved all over the place, mainly to Bearington, but also to Forestine Caves and Magnetic Island (which was little known or inhabited before Bubbalo refugees found it – it was just a baron land to send Beariminals). A few unfortunate ones ended up on Darkwood as they were drawn in by Dr Grizz. Quite a few old Bair residents moved to a part of Jungleton, now called Jungle Bair, as it felt the most similar, natural bear habitat. The rest of Jungleton is a natural reserve to observe the ways of real grizzlies in simulators, and be within a real bear-like wilderness. Bearington is too modern for these old bears.

Only polar bears live on Freezso as it is generally too cold for most bears despite its vast land. Eyeland doesn’t have habitants as it’s a security island, only open to bears for the ‘eye of truth’, which helps pay for the security of the Bearlago’s. Slowth is mainly a holiday island to go-slow and relax with a few permanent residents who like the slow lifestyle.

Dreamback isn’t like any other island. It has no fixed shape. It changes as the tide keeps coming in and out, and it also changes with clouds appearing up and down, where mallows can also be found. You need a special floating vehicle or helicopter to be able to navigate Dreamback. It’s part of Pensa’s creation and it’s not an inhabited land, it just has bear workers known as ‘slee peas’. Bears can’t normally visit there unless they can gain a special pass from Pensa.

In each area citizens are called by different names:

Bearingtons (citizens of Bearington are called this), Bubbalos (former citizens of Bubbalo), Dreamies (The workers of Dreamback are called this), Slowths (citizens of Slowth), Freezers (citizens of Freezso), Bairs (citizens of Bair).

EMOCHINES

Around Bearington, Freezso and other islands you will find Emochine’s, the first known invention by Pensa made many years before at the Iceso’s which is a washing machine shower and spa for changing bear emotions. Dirty bears shower in the Emochine to feel refreshed and clean like a normal shower, but the Emochine also changes the bear’s emotions from tired or angry to happy and energetic. It’s like a meditation shower with good fumes that are released, like incense mixed with water and steam.

Bears go to the Emochine to be washed and free their imagination if it’s getting cloudy, just like you might have ideas come to you when relaxing your mind in a shower. The Emochine was invented by Pensa to combat against ‘danger-breath’, which is when a bear has such bad breath they can cause damage (like freeze another bear or wipe their memory).

Rumour has it Dr. Grizz was experimenting with some of his bear henchmen with danger-breath to stun normal bears for a short while so they can be kidnapped easily. The Emochine is able to wash out the stench and wake bears up from a ‘danger-breath trance’ as it rids of bad clouds, but the side-effect means you also forget the last few things you did as the machine shakes them up. It’s like a restore point.

MEMORY DUMPS & MEMORY BOOSTERS

The Bearlagos has a few ‘memory dumps’ dotted around, which bears have to be careful about going into, but which are also hard to see (although the smell can be a giveaway). When in a memory dump you forget things you learned before, a bit like the Emochine (which changes your emotions when you are in the washing machine, but that is to adjust moods). These memory dumps might be bad for your memory (and smell), but they also have very fertile soil underneath which can nurture some nourishing organic Bearlago food like popcorns.

To combat a memory dump bears must either head back to the Bearcademy to learn again or find a ‘memory booster’, which does the opposite, as they help the bears remember something they forgot. Memory boosters look like little jelly beans, but Dr. Grizz tried to send out his henchmen to find them so other bears can’t use them. They are not easy to find though, yet these memory boosters might come in handy in different parts of the bears’ journey. Where do you think you can find them?
